Re-issue of How to Knit a Wild Bikini, but definitely worth a second read!

This book is a re-issue of How to Knit A Wild Bikini. I first read the story a few years back and couldn't remember what the story or plotline was. Once I started into the reissued version, I did remember the plot, and despite this, it still kept me entertained throughout the whole book. The main characters are Jay Buchanan, a playboy editor of a man's magazine, who is playfully called Hef Junior in the book. He's sworn off women for a year, but needs to hire a chef for a short term summer stint to feed him and the teenage cousin who's staying with him in his Malibu house. Nikki is a chef who has just quit her restaurant job due to the strain it's putting on her injured knee, which for some reason she hasn't had fixed yet. Before interviewing her, Jay mistakenly thought Nikki was a lesbian (her friend who previously worked for Jay was a lesbian and he assumed she was as well) and only agrees to hire her if she would pretend to be his girlfriend while she worked there. He knows she is straight and feels the attraction between the two of them and their teasing conversations about her sexual leanings is witty and fun to read. Christie Ridgway is very skilled at writing passages where you can honestly feel the chemistry between these two and this book doesn't disappoint. There are a couple of side story lines going on in this book with Nikki's relationship with the owner of the knitting shop, the poor little rich girl who lives next door and Jay's teenage cousin who is in over her head with a more aggressive older teenage boy. The only part of this book I just didn't get was the rich girl next door and the gardener. That just didn't make sense and without revealing the plot, the last part of her story just didn't sound plausible to me. The rest of the book however, is worth the price and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Cozy, tender read for the beach!

Nikki Carmichael is at a crossroads. Due to an injury she’s leaving behind her treasured job as a sous-chef at a top restaurant to go out on her own as a private chef…she hopes. With no money, no family, no friends and just a wind-up toy fish as a pet, Nikki Carmichael needs a job…and a life. She has just one name to call on for an interview and he’s too hungover to remember placing the request.
Jay Buchanan is the Bachelor of Malibu Beach. As the editor of the top men’s magazine, he is known by everyone, surrounded by people wanting to be his friend (mostly ladies) and is definitely NOT lacking in the ‘life’ department. Whereas he doesn’t need help in the bedroom, he does need help in the kitchen and that is where he and Nikki strike a deal. She’ll cook meals for him and a teenaged niece staying with him and cater a party for his parents and he’ll go back to enjoying his life. Simple idea just not so simple in practice.
Nikki bugs him. She has layers and his reporter personality can’t help but want to dig through them all and find out what makes Nikki tick. She’s very solitary, yet can’t help but be swept up in the craziness that is Jay’s life. The walls she’s built to protect her heart really has no hope against the storm that is Jay Buchanan. Add on a surprise announcement she never saw coming, and Nikki knows her life will never be the same.
This is not a very complicated story, despite some of the twists, but it definitely will keep you entertained as you lay out on a beach or in front of a fire. It’s a sweet, love story with plenty of passion between Jay and Nikki. Its part one of the Billionaire’s Beach series and I think the tamest of the three. It can definitely be read as a standalone, but it does lead a nice ground work for the next two books which really pull at some heartstrings so I would definitely recommend you read on for the next two books!

Great story

I loved this story!! It was excellent. Jay are Nikki are awesome characters, very well written. I loved their personalities and quirks throughout the story too. I loved how we also got a secondary story with the next door neighbor at the same time as Jay and Nikki's. The story flows very well and I love how the sisters are blended in.
Nikki is working as Jay's chef for a month to try and let her knee get some rest and to make contacts for another private chef job afterwards. Jay has decided to swear off women and so when he sees Nikki and is drawn to her he wants to avoid hiring her but Nikki refuses to take no for an answer which causes her to have to play Jay's girlfriend to get him out of an awkward situation. They deny their feelings from the beginning because neither wants to actually go there for different reasons. I love how they work it out in the end and how the process goes for both of them.
Their banter is awesome throughout the story. It's one of my favorite things about it. I definitely enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next one.
