A fabulous cookbook

Anyone who lives on or who has visited the island of St. Martin knows about Yvette's Restaurant, a cute little place on the French side,serving great local Caribbean food.
Now this famous restaurant has published a cookbook of their recipes along with beautiful pictures of the food.

I have bought one of these books for myself, and absolutely love it, and I have bought 2 for gifts also.

Culinary Excellence - Caribbean Style

I just returned from St Martin today toting three of these beautiful cook books with me (cost of checking luggage being what it is these days the maximum I could afford to carry) and want three more books to share with my dearest friends and family. This cook book not only provides a road map to my favorite St Martin dishes but is also an artistic work of art. The vibrant colors and beautiful pictures could easily adorn an art book of the highest quality. I especially appreciate the type set which is quite adequate for the over sixty crowd (even without my glasses). I highly recommend this for all who adore high quality cookbooks (my passion) and/or love caribbean cuisine.

Mouth Watering Cuisine!!!

Felix & family make the best food - I cannot WAIT to make all of my favorite recipes from this book. I've had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant several times over the past 20 years or so. I can't tell you how happy I am to have gotten a [signed] copy of this book this past week while having dinner at Yvette's Restaurant in St. Martin. The recipes are all simple, using common ingredients & kitchen tools. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in simple recipes that will make your mouth water & your belly full of wonderful, hearty food.

Finally - No Rhetoric, October 22, 2005 by a customer This is a book that offers real peoples' experiences and struggles as they sought the strength of the Lord to carry them from day to day. It's free of the rhetoric and personal agendas that fill almost all of the writings on the subject. This is a book of hope. A message of hope and faith, July 17, 2006 by a customer I have found much hope and faith in reading 'In Quiet Desperation.' I am grateful that there are those out there who are willing to share their stories and shed light on this usually 'dark' or 'forbidden' challenge. I have been dealing with same-sex attraction my entire life and find a great deal of hope in realizing there is a place for me in the Kingdom of my God. I am grateful to the authors for their raw honesty. This book reminds us that we do not have to live a life of misery and fear and depression because of same-sex attraction. The book is uplifting. Excellent resource!

Ty Mansfield served a mission in New Hampshire and is a graduate of Brigham Young University.

A complete misrepresentation of my friend

This book pretends to explain why my friend, Stuart Matis, took his own life dramatically. Stuart's parents are just speculating on what it is like to be a gay man. Ty Mansfield never met Stuart, and is himself pretending to be an exgay married to a woman. He is entitled to his own life, but to to rewrite that of others.

This book is a shameful misrepresentation of a man's life. I miss Stuart and wish he could have survived the manipulation that Mormonism imposes on its gay children, but he is only one of 3 gay Mormons friends I have lost to suicide.

I'm now out and proud

I read this book shortly after returning from my mission to Germany. I had discussed my homosexuality with my parents and church leaders prior to my mission. As with many gay Mormons I thought that if I followed the guidelines of the church and tried hard to live a pure life that I would be able to marry a woman and have a family. When I returned home my struggle to remain a faithful Mormon became more difficult and desperate. I read this book at the urging of my mother. Reading it had the opposite effect than my mother was hoping. I came to understand for myself that the self hatred and lack of self respect I had come to know growing up would never let me enjoy my life. It still took a couple more years to finally accept myself as a proud gay man, but now I am out and proud! Come out and be happy! Come out and make a stand for equal rights and treatment! Come out and show your families that that you can be happy and successful! Come out and teach your families what true Christianity is... Love and Compassion.

I had considered buying this book for a long time but I was embarassed to ever do so. Then one day I just got over it and bought it. It's honestly one of the most helpful books I've ever read. It's got a great perspective on the Atonement.

Russell Miles is a software engineer for General Dynamics UK where he works with Java and Distributed Systems, although his passion at the moment is Aspect Orientation and in particular AspectJ. To ensure that he has as little spare time as possible, Russ contributes to various open source projects while working on books for O'Reilly. He currently is studying at Oxford University in England for an MSc in Software Engineering.

Kim Hamilton is a senior software engineer at a major aerospace corporation, where she has designed and implemented a variety of systems, including web applications and distributed systems. Kim has a Master's in Applied Math and Computer Science from Cornell University.

A great book, not just for Java programmers!

I'm a junior Java programmer and the main reason why I came into contact with UML is because some of the major Java IDE's like Sun Java Studio and NetBeans have fully adopted support for UML modeling. Even though the tutorials on the Sun and NetBeans website give you a very good heads up and despite the fact that there are many UML tutorials available on the web I wanted more. Both a learning guide as well as some good reference.

And thats what I found in Learning UML from O'Reilly. What I like best about this book is that even though it covers the entire UML 2.0 spectrum it doesn't try to cover every little detail which don't add to the learning experience. Instead it gives you clear links for further reading or browsing (for example; it covers some of UML's history and gives you links for more detailed stories).

Another very important part for me is the way the book is setup. It seperates the different diagrams and follows a very logical order. From Use Case to Activity, Class (both regular and advanced), Object, Sequence, Communication, Timing, Component, State and Deployment. And because each chapter covers one diagram (with the exception of the class diagram which covers 2 chapters) its very easy to use this book both as learning tool as well as reference.

And the reason why I'm writing up this review.. This book assumes that the reader is already somewhat familiar with Object Oriented (OO) programming as well knows a little about Java. Examples where they show how some code snippets functionality are being displayed in a model are based on Java. However, despite that detail it doesn't result in a book which is only usable for Java (-like) programmers.

So summing up: A great book to learn UML and use as reference.

I knew little about UML and its Diagrams before this book.

This book explains you most of the fundamental concepts in UML, most importantly, the relationship between these diagrams and concepts.

Wording is concise, yet precise (as a primer book on UML). Now I can use UML designing my software project!

Excellent book. Entertaining, not distracting with formal details or innecessary stuff that only appears in the UML specification. This book will give you excellent practical insight on the stuff that matters in the day to day development using UML.

So Custer lives becomes President (can't be that bad right). Starts the war with Spain over Cuba, commits the U.S. into Manifest Destiny, shows that he is arrogant (surprise), can't hold his drink, manipulated by his wife...Great read, what if, just needs to be believable, and it is.

I have been required to use this series for the past two years and if given the choice in the future, would not select to use it again. Though this series has a ton of resources (which Vista touts), many of these resources are inaccessible to middle-school and high-school students beginning language study. Chapters are divided into Lecon A and Lecon B and present too many words, half of which are just listed out to the side at the beginning of the chapter. Random words and expressions are thrown in that are not high-frequency vocab words and many high-frequency vocab words are not included in early themes. There are also output (speaking and writing activities) that are too difficult/unrealistic and not narrow enough for most novice learners. Gramatically, entire paradigms are often introduced in lower levels. Activities often require students to think about and apply multiple rules (which is too much for novice learners to attend to, when they should be mastering the basics). Additionally, grammatical structures do not necessarily complement the themes of the chapters they are used with. The way the series is set up is that there are 2 larger concepts per lecon/4 total per chapter, but there are a lot of other smaller grammatical concepts included in the presentation of larger concepts. Video series is good; native speakers speak at a pace that is much more accessible to novice learners. As a communication-oriented teacher, I have found this series very difficult to work with. By the end of level 2, all tenses (including pluperfect, present and past subjunctive) are presented. Cultural articles are not that interesting and use a lot of complicated syntax and vocaulary for novice learners. Overall, activities emphasize too many discrete points; so, students lose the point of the communicative goals of many activities altogether.
