Groundbreaking Work in the Field of Bioenergetics

Valerie Hunt's book, INFINITE MIND, is a classic in the field of human energy fields, or bioenergetics. The research described in INFINITE MIND is on the cutting edge of exploring what we know about human energy fields. Hunt's descriptions of experiments she's conducted with aura readers and physicists make fascinating reading. For example, Hunt shares her amazing findings in the "Mu Room," in which human subjects burst into tears when the electromagnetism of the air was depleted, and regained a sense of clear thinking when the electromagnetism of the air was increased. The Mu Room is a seven foot square shielded room located in the Physics department at UCLA, where the electromagnetic energy of the air can be altered without reducing its breathability (oxygen content). Other studies examine the energy fields of healers and the people they are healing, and the energy fields eminating from our bodies independent from our internal organs.
INFINITE MIND is packed with gems of wisdom, such as Hunt's description of the five most commonly unintegrated spiritual experiences (experiencing a God-like energy, recalling a past life, gaining abilities to perform miraculous healings and alter material substances, acknowledging one's rage at God's apparent abandonment of us, and the Kundalini experience). INFINITE MIND is a book best read sequentially from beginning to end, since Hunt includes numerous personal experiences throughout her descriptions of scientific studies and experimental results.
What I most enjoy about INFINITE MIND is the way Hunt weaves together a sense of wholeness from her exotic experiences with spirit healing in foreign lands, her unceasing commitment to scientifically investigating energy fields and thought forms, and her honesty in sharing her mystical insights along the way. Infinite Mind

An excellent book for energy therapists who need scientific research to explain/support the work. Valerie Hunt is a pioneer in the field whose professional background in physical therapy, physiology and teaching curious students opened her to the exploration of consciousness, frequencies and the energetic, vibrational effect on the body. In her 90's, energetic and healthy, she continues to conduct research and currently is working on two $1 million grants in this field. Once past the first chapter of some highly technical information, the remainder of the book will keep you engaged with her personal evolution in this direction, experiences/stories and important studies that support the work.

An Early Study on the Human Energy Field

I found 'Infinite Mind' by Valerie Hunt only recently, while it’s not a new book. It was published in 2000, but the research it is based upon dates back to the 1970s. But that does in no way turn down or diminish the importance of this book. In the contrary, it shows that every thorough research needs decades to really condense into something we call a science.

And then, there is another lapse of time involved in this science to be recognized by the established science tradition and academia! This has to my knowledge not been done yet specifically for Hunt’s Science of the Human Vibrations of Consciousness, but it has been done in a larger framework, within what today is called consciousness research, and which has been fertilized by many different sciences.

I would like to focus in this review on phenomena the author observed and measured, or that she reports having been measured by others, and that later, in some cases have been corroborated by further research.

There is a staggeringly simple experiment that was repeated over and over and where observations coincided over time, and with various researchers. It is an advanced form of intuiting answers that usually is done with a computer and where the test person clicks the mouse or hits a pad every time, and as fast as possible, to give the answer to a specific question. The author writes:
—We observed that before the brain wave was activated and before stimuli altered the heart rate, blood pressure or breathing, the field had already responded. This led us to postulate that a person’s primary response in his world takes place first in the auric field, not in the sensory nerves nor in the brain./25

The same results for the same kind of experiment were reported by Dean Radin and Michael Talbot, in their books, reviewed in this volume. Today the measurements would of course be much more precise than back in the 1970s, as Dean Radin reports, and errors can be as good as excluded. It was clearly shown in these experiments that the field reacted long before the stimulus was getting to the brain, let alone triggered the action response. This important experiment shows that the human brain practices pre-intellectual decision–making that is totally intuitive, and that is probably not located in the brain, because it’s pre–cognitive, but in the aura, energy field or etheric body of the person. What answers here is thus not the brain, not the cognitive apparatus, but the field itself, the plasmatic energy at the root of all life.

The next important point to consider is the relationship between the observer and the observed, that equally was extensively treated in the studies of both Dean Radin and Michael Talbot, and countless other more recent studies.

But perhaps the most important research is the one done directly on the field, research that formerly was called aura research and that we now call research on the human energy field. This research is so vast today, and branches out so extensively that my guess is it will be the foremost research topic in the future. It will probably open the door to getting beyond the speed-of-light limitation and allow to build magnetic-driven spaceships, as we know them from science fiction. Besides, the applications in daily life are so countless that I do not need to mention them here.

As this book is very long and complex, I will focus here further on Chapter VI of the book entitled ‘Emotions: The Mind-Field Organizer’ because I believe this is one of the most important topics of the book. I will just list the quotes here that concern Hunt’s alternative view on emotions, which exactly coincides with my own research on emotions:
—Emotions carry the essence of our unique and collective consciousness. (...) I suggest that human emotion is the organizer of energy fields./104

I have done this re-evaluation of emotions research in my books and I speak of a unique emotional identity code, and now find in the present book that Dr. Hunt speaks of a specific ‘personal emotional field signature’ (p. 111), which she describes as a form of steady state of emotionality that represents something like a unique emotional patterning that differs from one person to the other.

Kindergarten-Grade 4-After admonishing youngsters for ignoring the volume's title, a peevish pig explains that the book is not yet written, indicating a blank page and a hodgepodge of words printed on rectangle banners. Using numerous exclamation points, the author repeatedly-and rudely-tells everyone to get lost so that he can get to work. Eventually realizing that the spectators won't budge, the pig demands silence, climbs a ladder, and carefully glues and nails words to the wall, forming the beginning of a story. Unfortunately, the next page-turn blows the words around and when they settle down, they now describe a ferocious mouse that appears on the scene. And so it goes, until the exasperated porker pens an insulting tale about a giant pest, telling readers to say their names whenever there's a blank in the narrative. Then the pig declares the book completed, heads to bed, and dreams about literary accolades. The loose-lined, messy-looking cartoons in glossy, bold colors suit the text's truculent tone. Comical details include boxes of words (labeled verbs, animals, etc.) and a spider and fly that assist and poke fun at their friend. Although the story is a bit monotone and the humor stretches thin, this offering might make a lighthearted starting point for discussions of creativity and the writing process.-Joy Fleishhacker, School Library Journal

Recriminations ("Are you always so rude?") begin on the endpapers and continue as children penetrate deeper into what a pig character identifies as his own, in-progress book. Turning the pages appears to wreak havoc on the narrative within, as words shake loose; form new, unintended sentences; and enrage the frustrated auteur--until he discovers that the unwanted intrusions have, in the circular fashion so beloved of postmodernism, created the very story he had struggled to produce. Along with hand lettering Muntean's text, LeMaitre contributes bright, comics-style pictures that clarify the occasionally dizzying concepts (the words of the story-within-the-story, for instance, are represented on individual placards, making the constant reconfigurations easy to follow). Similarities to titles such as James Stevenson's Don't Make Me Laugh (2003) are obvious, but children will be no less enraptured by the irreverent, interactive premise and will emerge with a fresh understanding of the powerful qualities of words. Reverse psychology drives this voice-bubble monologue, whose curmudgeonly narrator-a pink pig in a purple stocking cap-implores readersnot to turn the pages. He appears on the inside flap, sniping, "Excuse me, but did you read the front cover of this book- Are you always so rude-" Next, readers interrupt him in his woodshop, where ladders, pylons and boxes of "dangerous words" and "nouns" suggest a work in progress. "The reason you weren't supposed to open this book is because it is not yet written," he frowns, as disorganized scraps flutter about, each labeled with a single word like instant-poetry refrigerator magnets. The pig sneakily gets revenge by wondering, "What's your name-" and begging for participation in a fill-in-the-blanks rubric ("There once was a giant pest named _____.... It did not matter how many times _____ was asked togo away , _____ would not go"). Muntean makes sure he protests too much, daring readers to press their luck, and Lemaitre (the Who's Got Game- series) provides the author with tiny sidekicks-a round brown spider and violet-blue fly-who mimic his gestures and imply that he's harmless. Like Mo Willems's Pigeon books, this makes an excellent read-aloud, with abundant opportunities for hammy acting. Ages 4-8.(Mar.)

A determined pig scolds readers for interfering with the creative process as he labors to write a story. "You think it's easy to put words together? Hah! Now go away! I need time to think," he grouses from an upside-down yoga position. As readers persist in turning the pages, he gets crosser and crosser, finally writing a story about a giant pest and inviting readers to fill in the blanks with their own names. Lemaitre's illustrations set a cartoony pig in an implied workshop filled with boxes of adverbs, nouns and "salty words," among others. As a picture of the imagination at work, it's a busy one, glue pots and rakes sharing space with bulldozers, as the author needs them. As a conceit, however, it strains somewhat to maintain interest over the course of 32 pages, Muntean's pig's sudden reconciliation to the reader-turned-character a little abrupt and inconsistent with the appealing grouchiness that's gone before. There are other stories about writing and reading stories—Allan Ahlberg's Half a Pig (2004) and James Stevenson's No Laughing, No Smiling, No Giggling (2004) come to mind—that have a little more substance to sustain the fun. Wonderful book!

Pig is about to write a book and has everything ready in his workshop. However, he is rudely interrupted by the reader and can't continue creating the story with the presence of a nuisance who simply won't leave him alone. So the pig decides to include the disturber in the story and try to get the book written anyway.

What comes out of the collaboration is a fun and entertaining book. It teaches you how the words work and what happens when you are not careful with them. The illustrations complete the story and make you laugh all the way to the end.

What I really liked about the book was the simplicity and originality of the idea. Now that you have opened the book, when you clearly were told not to, you are in for some big family laughs. My daughter and I really enjoyed this book.

A cute little book, this is, that not only gives youngsters a picture of the writing process (and some of its more cantankerous denizens), but also carries a subtext about the care with which a person should choose words-- a lesson which the next generation will be in dire need of learning, given how the generation above it seems completely incapable of same.

Our protagonist here is a pig who's trying to write a book, but his audience keeps messing things up by turning the pages. It's possible that very young children may get bored-- this is very much a one-trick pony-- but the story is sufficiently short that that shouldn't happen. And there is a great deal for kids to think about here, and for parents to talk to kids about after they've had a chance to ponder. A fun book with which to explore options with your budding writer. *** �

Excellent for beginners

I found this book very helpful in looking at different antioxidants, enzymes and pathways involved in redox. The information is very concise and for someone just starting out in this field this book is much better than reading as many review articles. Mainly, because the descriptions give just enough information to understand the mechanism and relevance of each compound/pathway. There are not many references given so if you need more specific information about a topic this isn't the right book.

Not enough background info

This book is concise and covers wide range of topics. However, the background info is insufficient, and thus, I would not recommend this book for a true beginner. It requires some level of foundational chemical as well as biological knowledge to understand the concepts presented in this book. If you need a superficial reading on various topics on oxidative stress/antioxidant system/redox system, then this book is for you. However, I would rather recommend Free Radicals in Biology and Medicine instead if you need an in-depth understanding of the redox system.

I started refering to the book for a redox biochemistry course. During the course realised that the book deals with almost all redox related events in a cell - the redox enzymes & pathways, small molecules, free radicals and pathological consequences.
A review article can be referred if more information is needed about a specific system. But overall this book is a great resource to learn & integrate redox systems.

Wrath of an angry god

I strongly recommend reading the first two books of this trilogy first.

By now we have seen that the lion-like Raknii people have to improve and update their space fleet, as humans have superior weaponry. But the Raknii are superior in numbers and have a predatory mentality. This book tests whether there can be common ground between the warring factions.

Halbert the sentient computer has learned a lot from his human friend Dieter and is working on making himself mobile by such means as illegal clones and cyborgs. He still wants to be able to tap into any computer in the galaxy.

I enjoyed a new Raknii female who is the despair of her father, too contrary and self-possessed for any male to offer to marry her. The albino admiral Drix decides that he could not do better in a wife and offers for her paw, though it must be said he values her connections equally. At the same time this lady N'raal is a product of her society which does not educate women or expect them to fight, unlike humankind where we see female senior politicians and admirals among the list.

There are fewer battle scenes than in the earlier books, but when the humans are using hollowed out asteroids as mobile battle platforms, the results are spectacular. Also we get little fun or quirky items, great characterisation, some genuine romance and a couple of weddings. What more do you need in a space war series?

An excellent conclusion to the series.

This was a most excellent conclusion to this trilogy, there were some points were it did drag, however it soon picked the pace back up and there were epic battles. Yes some of these plot lines we have seen before on the other hand Gibson did an excellent job in weaving them together for a great story. I was happy to see the Admiral and boobs survive and thrive as I was saddened by the loss of JT. I suspected back in book 1 that Bat had a relationship with Bozo aka Hal that he was hiding. A job well done Gibson.

Loved the series and I want MORE!

I've read the whole series and loved it. Lots of battles for us military SF fans, but overall, I really loved the characters, both alien and human, and the humor just kept the series fun and easy to read. For me, these were pure entertainment, which is what I look for. I sincerely hope the author will return to the series and write more!

Drugs, sex and groupies abound in this book by Pearlman, a reporter for Newsday. Only the author isn't a rock critic chronicling the wild escapades of a band; he's describing the very successful 1986 season when the New York Mets won the World Series. As remarkable as the team's performance on the field, the players' escapades outside the stadium are perhaps more memorable, in a far less flattering way. Pearlman, an unabashed Mets fan, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the team, including an insightful portrait of Frank Cashen, the general manager at the time. Pearlman discusses the trades, the players' abilities and unforgettable games. But much of the book is about the difficulties and the unprofessional behavior of many of the players. For example, on one rowdy flight back to New York, United Airlines billed the team an additional $7,500 for damage resulting from food fights and other unruly antics and said the team couldn't fly the airline again. Cashen was upset, but the manager, Davey Johnson, laughed as he tore up the bill in front of the team. The drug use that would become public later was not addressed at the time, though it was obvious to reporters. When asked whether Dwight Gooden was healthy, despite several minor car accidents, Johnson had nothing to say: "As long as Dwight Gooden was smiling and in good physical shape, Johnson required no knowledge about the pitcher's private time. Johnson was a manager, not a babysitter." Pearlman's book isn't simple nostalgia-some of the players have virtually disappeared from the public eye-and much of the wild off-field behavior is still part of the game today. Baseball aficionados, especially Mets fans, will enjoy this affectionate but critical look at this exciting season.

In 1986, the New York Mets won the World Series, taking it from the Boston Red Sox in some of the most memorable baseball ever played. Pearlman doesn't really want to talk about that. He wants to tell you what terribly bad boys these Mets were. There is no boozing, drug use, or bimbo eruption that he does not describe, nor does he miss a single evil quote from one player about another. Doc Gooden's and Darryl Strawberry's silken and glorious talents are not examined nearly so much as their wastrel paths to drug and alcohol use are scrupulously detailed. Rampant sexism and underhanded racism were certainly part of the baseball scene in 1986, but must Pearlman revel in them with such glee? And the prose? Perlman goes purple at the slightest provocation: Bill Buckner's left ankle "throbbed like a transplanted heart." There is a lot not to like here, which is exactly why it will draw media interest and may well become one of the hottest-selling baseball books of the season. GraceAnne DeCandido

It's hard to be a saint in baseball city...

This book was an interesting and fun read. It was great to revisit the 1986 season the Mets won the World Series. I remember myself (as a lifelong Met fan) and the city being so energized by the Mets and the twists and turns of their great season. People talked baseball and Mets on the street, in the subway, at the market. Typically quiet people and people not that interested in baseball jumped into conversations about the games and the possibility of a Pennant and then World Series. It was so much fun to be in NYC and live each and every game.
