About the Author
S. Christian Albright received his B.S. degree in mathematics from Stanford in 1968 and his Ph.D. in operations research from Stanford in 1972. Since then, he has been teaching in the Operations and Decision Technologies Department in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He has taught courses in management science, computer simulation, and statistics to all levels of business students: undergraduates, MBAs, and doctoral students. His current interest is in spreadsheet modeling, including development of VBA applications in Excel. Dr. Albright has published more than 20 articles in leading operations research journals in the area of applied probability. He has also published a number of successful textbooks, including DATA ANALYSIS AND DECISION MAKING, DATA ANALYSIS FOR MANAGERS, and SPREADSHEET MODELING AND APPLICATIONS.

Wayne L. Winston is Professor Emeritus of Decision Sciences at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is now a Professor of Decision and Information Sciences at the Bauer College at the University of Houston. He has won more than 45 teaching awards, including the school-wide MBA award six times. His current interest is in showing how spreadsheet models can be used to solve business problems in all disciplines, particularly in finance, sports, and marketing. In addition to publishing more than 20 articles in leading journals, Dr. Winston has written such successful textbooks as OPERATIONS RESEARCH: APPLICATIONS AND ALGORITHMS, MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING: APPLICATIONS AND ALGORITHMS, SIMULATION MODELING WITH @RISK, DATA ANALYSIS FOR MANAGERS, SPREADSHEET MODELING AND APPLICATIONS, MATHLETICS, DATA ANALYSIS AND BUSINESS MODELING WITH EXCEL 2013, MARKETING ANALYTICS, and FINANCIAL MODELS USING SIMULATION AND OPTIMIZATION. He received his B.S. degree in mathematics from MIT and his Ph.D. in operations research from Yale.

Excellent book but be careful before buying !!

This book is a excellent book in that it provides a unified approach to business-related problems by integrating methods and applications that have been traditionally taught in separate courses, specifically statistics and management science. In addition, the book emphasizes realistic business examples and the processes managers actually use to analyze business problems.
But before buying the book, make a sure that it has a access to a website which has samples used in the book. Without the samples in the website, the value of this book is none.

Using it to "self-teach" and transition from Web Analyst to Business Analyst (Business Analytics Analyst)

So far, this book is invaluable. I was an English major; then, ended up in analytics, so there are quite of few information gaps, even though I have Master's in Information Systems Management. When I got a new position that was decidedly more business intelligence/analytics focused than my previous position in Web Analytics at IBM (5+ years) and since I don't have a business education, I needed to quickly get up to speed on the fundamentals of BA. I'm so glad I rented this book. I also love that Amazon allows you to put your rental monies toward the purchase of the book, if you so choose. I'm on my second rental period and plan on buying the book. I'm using this to self-teach, if you will, since I don't have the time, money or motivation to return back to school. With this book, I'm off to a great start and feeling more confident about my skills and new position.

I would have loved to keep it but I just rented it.

I just rented this book for about $50 and I had to return it after the semester ended. However, of all my MBA book that I have bought and breadths one I would have loved to keep. Absolutely superb instructions on statistical analysis. Step by step instructions to maximize excel. Just make sure you have it loaded on a windows based system because the mac version for excel is incomplete. Let me write a review on microsoft products...oh that would be a book.

Doug's on fire! This book is not just for all the pussies out there taken over by the feminists and the culture rot. This book is for those who live in "Mantown" who know they're not alone. It's message is not only to the pussies all around us, but also to the bosses, ladies, parents, and friends who need to get rid of their dead weight to make way for possibilities that don't end in Pussville.
Doug's fresh takes on the Founding Fathers and "The Founding Father" are spot-on and need to be read and proclaimed now more than ever. Doug calls it like it is and backs his seething rants with scripture and quotes from those who made this country the antithesis of what it has become under the pussies who have run it for the last 65 years--especially the last 8. Read this book and pass it onto that pussy to your left and right. You won't regret it.

human aspects of practicing medicine that is evident throughout, which is blended well with the more frequently taught technical, knowledge-based information. The authors succeed in their goal of emphasizing connection and compassion as a means to delivering more effective patient care as well as
supporting and enhancing the physician's reason for choosing this career. If you are looking for a quick reference medical book, you will not be disappointed. The focus on the perspective of compassionate humans caring for people in need is a particularly useful bonus."

About the Author
Kevin McCloud is the presenter of Channel 4's BAFTA nominated 'Grand Designs', which has now covered over 100 projects. He has also hosted the annual coverage of the Stirling Prize and made series about the Grand Tour, urban regeneration, the slums of Mumbai and his shed. A building historian and trained designer by background, Kevin has also written extensively about architecture, decoration, design, lighting, colour, sustainability and his shed. His day job is making television programmes. His other day job is running Hab Housing, a green development business he founded. Kevin is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Useful for understanding your organization's environment

Very useful material. Lacks explanation of how these cultures come into being. As an economist, it is very easy for me to form hypotheses. The problem is finding examples of failed cultures, as those companies are gone.

This should be considered a classic in business literature. I found it very useful designing workshops to help corporate leaders breathe life into stodgy mission statements. The use of mission to motivate employees is rarely achieved, and this book helps you understand why.

Fiction? Really?

From time to time, I come across a work of fiction that is so obviously written by someone who has experience with the subject matter as to make it come alive. The Beloved Daughter is one such book.

Most of what I know of the conditions in North Korea in general, and for believers specifically, is in small bits and pieces from various missionary organizations. I've never doubted what they described, though it's hard to grasp how inhumane humans can be to one another when you only read a paragraph here and there. Likewise with how irrational people can be simply because of the name of Jesus.

Alana Terry has written a masterpiece that puts life in perspective in North Korea. That takes me out of the safety of my US life and transports me into the prisons where my brothers and sisters in Christ survive, somehow - or not. It also puts "free" life for Christians in North Korea in perspective. The constant observation of surroundings and suspicious people, the need for places to hide even in the home, to distrust even those people closest to you.

Because of Alana Terry's book, The Beloved Daughter, I will no longer be so blase when I hear of prisoners in NK, or of torture of one of my brothers or sisters there. I've "seen" the conditions in those prisons. I don't know how they survive at all. Prayer will be more than a simple "Bless them" from this time on. Thank you, Alana, for painting this picture for me and for all who will read and let it affect them so profoundly.

Beautiful and Tragic

This book really hits home for me. Because I'm half Korean, (My mother was born near Seoul) I had a certain level of intimacy with the characters, so that even the names sounded familiar to me. And this made me especially sensitive to the abuse and torture of the characters and their horrid situations.

Abuse of Christians in North Korea is a current situation, not something off in the distant past. It's reality today. The author does a phenomenal job of making their plight a reality for readers who are completely clueless to the struggle of the underground church.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - but have tissues handy.

Not of faith? Read it anyway. You won't regret it.

I received my copy of "The Beloved Daughter" yesterday and.... read the entire thing yesterday. I really enjoyed the story line as well as how the different characters were connected. It is easy to forget this story is set in modern days and not centuries ago with all the horrific things that happened to the characters (if you haven't read this story - I promise it isn't all bad - there are great messages of love and perseverance). It certainly opens one's eyes to what goes on in our world. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn about it. I did not find the character's names confusing because most characters are only in the novel for a short time and each in a unique situation (all revolving around one main character). Although not a long book, it covers so much. Religious persecution is very much alive today and this book reminds us of how it happens behind closed doors. A must read (with a box of tissues). Even if you are not a person of faith, this book will still speak to you about love and compassion.

A triumph!

Going beyond mere history this presentation takes the reader into the heart of radical thinking in contemporary social work. This remarkable work, drawn from original sources--archives and interviews--reveals how much of the past is in the present. Each chapter is a major contribution in itself. Radicals will treasure this book forever; for others it is a must read. Learning about the purges of the McCarthy era is highly relevant in the warfare state of the present day. The Road Not Taken is well written, well organized and well conceived. I could hardly put this book down and will be citing it in my future research on the welfare state.

Anyone going to school for Social Work needs read this book to get an alternative perspective on the History of Social Work. Very well written and easy to read. A must get for any one committed for social change!!!!!

Comprehensive History

I bought this book because there aren't a lot of books exploring the history of progressive/radical social work. The author explored the history of a number of groups and individuals while discussing the political climate precipitating a lot of the actions and reactions by the social work community and government. It's definitely worth buying.

Satisfied my curiosity but did not knock my socks off.

I was maybe expecting to much Wow from an author that shared the same nationality. I'm a Swedish american that was served a lifetime of meals prepared by a exceptional Swedish mother that was raised on a farm. His barbecue recipes just seem plain with no kick up or flare. Actually it lacks character. I like my barbecue cookbook from the Georgia Restaurant that states that it contains secrets that old men take with them to their graves. I also like my Smoking in the Boys Room Cookbook. I do a lot of home cooking and very seldom a repeated recipe so I'm more trusting of a female perspective. I love her Juke sauce and her Carolina and sweet barbecue combination sauce was a guest hit. Her grape salad is to die for. Jonas only contains rubs and barbecue sauce recipes. No marinade or brines. I just returned to using sour dough cultures so his sourdough recipes came at a good time but it is just Cowboy sourdough baked in the sun to activate. I even add Red Boat fish sauce to my injections and brines. Its like the Swedes adding Anchovies to chuck roast recipes in
place of salt. The printing was like the recipes. The recipes were grouped and spaced in typical format of single spacing as if it were a homework essay. In the beginning of the book you see a picture of a mature lady opening the lid on a barbecue that reflects both elegance and ruggedness. I'm drawn to the picture in interest but she's never introduced to the reader. I now know I prefer someone that is a successful honest sharing restaurant owner to author the barbecue book I desire.
