About the Author

Born in Italy in 1950, Renato Dicati has cultivated since childhood love for astronomy and the interest for space. In 1975 he graduated in Astrophysics at the University of Milan. After an interesting experience as teacher in public schools, he has worked for 30 years at IBM Italy, dealing with education, training and communications based on the use of information technology and multimedia.

Over the last twenty years he has dedicated much of his free time to science.

He has organized philatelic exhibitions regarding the history of astronomy and astronautics�and has published numerous books and articles on astronomy, space exploration and thematic philately.

Dicati is member of AS.IT.AF - Italian Astrophilately Society and serves on the Board of Directors of USFI (Italian Philatelic Press Union).

Its activities include volunteering at ASPHI, a non-profit foundation that promotes the integration of people with disabilities in school, at work and in society, through the use of ICT (Information Communication Technology).

Learning astronomy through philately

Stamps are beautiful creations of art which attract the attentions of people for their design and color composition. However, they also contain useful historical and scientific information which can be exploited to educate the public. With this background in mind, Dicati (an Italian philatelist and astrophysicist) has assembled 1300+ stamps commemorating people, instruments, and events in the field of astronomy and cosmology. The book follows a timeline that stretches from the ancient astronomy of Babylonians and Egyptians up to Einstein's theory of relativity and modern telescopes. A beautiful and informative book that is likely to fascinate not only philatelists and astronomers but the general public as well.

As a topical collector building a collection related to astronomy, this volume is a perfect complement to the American Topical Association Astronomy checklist. It has many wonderful illustrations and a lot of wonderfully interesting detail about the items illustrated.

About the Author

Jean Berko Gleason, PhD. is one of the world’s leading experts on children’s language and one of the founding mothers of the field of psycholinguistics. She created the famous Wug Test, which reveals how children learn the rules of language, such as how to make singular words plural. Her current work investigates parents’ speech and the interactive nature of language acquisition.� She is the author of leading textbooks in her field and many influential studies of aphasia, language development, gender differences in language, and language in the Roma community in Hungary. Dr. Berko Gleason is Professor Emerita in the department of psychology at Boston University.� A member of the Academy of Aphasia, she is past president of the International Association for the Study of Child Language and of the Gypsy Lore Society.� Her work is frequently cited in the professional literature, and has been featured in the popular media. She is profiled in the PBS online Nova Science Now series The Secret Life of Scientists.

Nan Bernstein Ratner, Ed.D., C.C.C. is Professor and Chair, Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences, University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Bernstein Ratner is the editor of numerous volumes, and author of numerous chapters and articles addressing language acquisition and fluency in children. Many of her research reports can be found in the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research and other major journals, with chapters in major texts on child speech and language development. With Jean Berko Gleason, Dr. Bernstein Ratner is the author of the text Psycholinguistics as well as prior editions of Language Development.� Dr. Bernstein Ratner currently serves as Co-editor of Seminars in Speech and Language. This book is very dense with a lot of information, but the material is really interesting. They have a lot of well-educated, high level authors, including authors from Harvard University, and it explains the subject very well.

Fascinating concepts. Presentation could be better.

I bought this for a Language Development class. Concepts are fascinating and the case studies are good, but the way it is presented is highly unappealing. I fell asleep every time I tried to start reading the chapters and eventually relied on class notes for the midterms and finals.

Extremely boring read. Too heavy on informational content and lacking in easy-reading stories and examples. The combination of paper type and font is extremely harsh on the eye when reading for long period of time.

Doreen Virtue Is An Amazing Author!

Hi everybody,

I bought this book a few weeks ago, and finished this book. And I loved it so much, I'm re-reading it. Doreen has had an amazing year with amazing books such as Archangels 101, and the Healing Miracles of Archangel Raphael. I hope this book becomes a New York Times Best-Selling Author. I truly believe in the vision of this book. This is a handbook that introduces us to all the angels and Archangels in the realms of the heavens. And it lists the different psychic techniques that we can all easily use to open our clairvoyance and other intuitive secrets (you'll have to read this book to find out). Doreen also teaches her readers how to do an angel reading, how to cut cords, how to work with Archangel Michael.

The second half of the book is amazing because Doreen teaches you and inspires you on how to make meaning out of your life; how manifest your dream job; how to find your life purpose. Then she teaches you how to become a successful spiritual teacher. This is a lovely book. I usually do not write many reviews on amazon.com. So me writing a review this book, means that I highly highly suggest this book. I highly suggest this book for Spiritual Counselors who are looking to incorporate ancient angelic wisdom into their work. This book is packed with so much information.

Good book for "angel" skeptics

As one of Hay House's blogger reviewers, I get to choose the books I review and I have the freedom to write whatever I want about each one. I had no interest in reviewing "The Angel Therapy Handbook" by Doreen Virtue for months. I like the material from Hay House's inspirational authors, such as Louise Hay's affirmations, Wayne Dyer's words on the power of intention, or Cheryl Richardson's extreme life makeovers. All with practical tips on how to live a better life. But talking to angels seemed a bit bizarre to me. You can get messages from angels?? Really???

Then I attended Hay House's I Can Do It conference in Pasadena this Fall. I noticed many authors had workshops in regular sized conference rooms. Doreen Virtue drew such a big crowd that they put her in the main auditorium for her workshop. "Maybe there is something to this angel stuff," I thought, as I watched a stream of people going into Doreen's talk. Though I didn't hear Doreen speak that weekend, I decided when I got back home to check one of her books out.

In the introduction of "Angel Therapy" Doreen explains how she connected with angels at a young age. "I was teased for being weird and different," she writes, "I rarely shared my odd experiences with others in order to avoid additional ostracism." I liked this personal biography to start the book, and I came away believing that Doreen really does communicate with angels, even if the idea seemed foreign to me.

After sharing her personal experiences, Doreen gives a very thorough explanation of what an angel is, the different types of angels, and how they communicate with us. She reveals that angels talk to us in a combination of four ways - visions, feelings, thoughts, and sound - and that one of these channels is strongest for each of us (which she calls your "primary clair"). In taking a short test in the book I was typed as "claircognizance" - or "an intellectual who receives direct communication through ideas and revelations." This I agree with. I am more of an "idea person" than the other types. Communicating with angels through impressions or ideas didn't seem so far fetched after all. I found myself saying "that's me" when reading her chapter on the features of claircognizance, and I suspect one of the four "clairs" will ring true for you, too.

In another chapter Doreen answers the common objections to interacting with angels. "Is it blasphemous to talk to angels?", "What if I'm wrong or just making it up?", "Isn't it better to learn life's lessons on my own?" are three of the questions she addresses. I thought her answers to these and other objections were well thought out. I came away thinking communicating with angels could be a loving, supportive area of growth for me, rather than a practice to be wary of.

Angel Therapy is also full of sound advice. In addition to the detailed descriptions of angels Doreen sprinkles little bits of wisdom throughout the book. In one chapter she writes, "Two indicators that you're aligned with your life purpose are (1) feeling joy as you engage in the activity; and (2) doors open for you easily while experiencing success with the service or product." I've been doing a lot of thinking on my life's purpose recently, and these words were encouraging to me.

After finishing "Angel Therapy" I regretted not hearing Doreen Virtue speak when I had the chance a few months ago. While I still wonder about some of the material in the book, reading Angel Therapy made me more open to the angelic realm. Maybe angels really are out there to support me. Maybe I've been communicating with them in my own way for years, and I just didn't know it.

Learning a lot

I discovered about eight years ago that there were angels around me. I've learned over the years how communicate with them, but I'm still working on learning how to actually work with them. But finding Doreen is a god send for me. She helps me understand things so much better, teaches me things I couldn't have learned on my own and also acts as a form of confirmation for me (the angels tell me a lot of the same things that I'm reading in Doreen's books, that sometimes to this day I still tend to listen too much to my ego and wonder "am I just imagining that?"). There is so much I don't understand about my abilities. I'm really learning a lot from this book on how to fully learn about and tap into my natural abilities.

Jennifer DeCurtins is a fitness instructor, personal trainer, yoga teacher and creator of the popular blog PeanutButterRunner. Most Effective Yoga And Exercise Book I Have Ever Read And Used!

This informative and illustrative guide is exactly what has been missing from my yoga practice. As someone who has been practicing yoga just over 2 years and participates in power vinyasa, this book gives me the opportunity to stop and take the time to learn proper form and alignment. Although it is titled as an inversions guide, the book actually leads you through and demonstrates standing, seated, and foundational poses too. This book is suitable for all levels helping the beginner gain a better understanding of poses and the experienced yogi accomplish advanced transitions. There is one asana (posture) shown per page with clear corresponding photography and instructions on "how to get there", "where to engage", and tips. I am fortunate to have taken the author's yoga classes and no teacher is better qualified to have written such a book. The descriptions are concise and easy to understand and although it can be difficult to instruct physical activity through writing, DeCurtins accomplishes this very effectively. I appreciate that the book is a resource for me, inspires me to grow as a yogi, as well as encourages me to incorporate at-home practice. This is just the tool I needed to embrace approaching inversions and it is a must-add to your library. R.P.

Amazing yoga resource!

Such a great yoga resource for students and teachers. While the book title is focused on inversions, the book also includes foundational information about essential poses such as downward facing dog, warrior 1, side angle, triangle, etc. The book then builds on those "gateway poses" and shows you advanced variations. For example, from warrior 1, the book then takes you through variations such as humble warrior, flying splits, bird of paradise and astavakrasana. Each pose has "how to get there" step by step instructions and "where to engage" pointers that are great tips for cuing students. The "anatomy notes/tips & tricks" often give pointers about what to practice first if the full pose isn't accessible yet - great encouragement to keep practicing. The photography is beautiful and the book is laid out in a way that makes it very easy to read. This is a book I'll refer to often both in my own practice and in teaching!

Great book for all levels

I'm a fairly new yogi, started practicing 1 year ago. Ashtanga and power yoga are my favorite types. I wanted to learn difficult poses the proper way without hurting myself. This book is great explaining the poses. The pictures are very helpful.
